Docs

From installed to productive. This page is the shortest path; the full documentation lives on GitHub and is updated continuously.

Quick start

Two routes, three steps each. The npm route needs Node ≥ 22; the installer route needs nothing up front.

Route one · Installer (ready out of the box)

① Download

Windows installer, free model built in

→

② Double-click to install

the wizard does the rest, no Node needed

→

③ Start talking

launch from the desktop or the tray

Route two · npm (self-hosted)

① Install

npm i -g engine7

→

② Initialise

engine7 init generates the config

→

③ Add a model

any compatible endpoint, then chat

Core concepts

The four rooms from the home page, opened up.

Soul · SOUL

A SOUL.md identity core, a mood state machine and separate personal and work modes — it remembers who you are, and knows what register to speak in right now.

Work · WORK

calendar → nudge → stop-hook → SESSION-STATE: delegate, track, chase, report — one closed loop. Agent Team lets it hand work on.

Memory · MEMORY

Five layers of memory, semantic search and a knowledge graph: pull up a conversation from three months ago, change computers without changing souls.

Channels · EVERYWHERE

Feishu / Discord / WeChat / Desktop / Voice — knock on whichever channel you like, and it answers there.

Configuration overview

After engine7 init, all configuration lives in one place. Save your edits and they hot-reload — no restart needed.

Free tier (built into the installer)

Chat as soon as it is installed. The free model is provided by Engine 7 with a daily usage cap and no API key to buy; switch to your own model whenever you need more headroom.

Bring your own model (npm / advanced)

$ engine7 init
# config lives at ~/.engine7/configs/main.json
# point it at any Anthropic / OpenAI / Gemini compatible endpoint

Multi-model automatic fallback and hot switching: if the primary model goes down, the next one in the chain picks up.
